Portrait Project – Week 16: ‘Hoagie’

April 26, 2012

The other day I went out to a softball game, and got to try my hand at a little sports photography. Portraits and events are really more my thing, and aside from taking a few shots of my kid sister’s cheerleading, I have never really done any ‘sports’ work. Let me tell you, there is an art to it. It took me a good half hour to really warm up and get into groove, and even then, I felt like I never really knew where to try and aim my camera. After all, the ball can go virtually anywhere.

I decided to focus most of my efforts on the batters. I wanted a really great ‘swinging’ shot. Fortunately, Kevin (known affectionately as ‘Hoagie’ on the team), gave me some stellar opportunities. He makes a great “I’m gonna murder this ball” face right as he’s swinging. He was nice cool to give me permission to post this photo from the game as this week’s Portrait Project shot.
