About
Insert Traditional Biography in the Third Person:
The online personae “dreadpiraterose” belongs to a twenty-eight year old publishing professional and photography enthusiast named Kelly Rowles, who is currently based in Philadelphia. You can find her writing and photography in various geeky corners of the interwebs (including StarTrek.com). She is the Editor-in-Chief of a site called Convention Fans, which covers fandom and pop culture conventions. Additionally, she writes about geek culture and local events for CultureMob. On top of that, she runs pix|elation photography, doing portraits and covering events around Philly.
You can follow Kelly on Twitter. She has a Facebook account, but she won’t friend you if she doesn’t actually know you, sorry!
What does “dreadpiraterose” mean anyway? (Back to first-person!)
The name is a combination of two loves: pirates and role-playing. The term “dread pirate” comes from The Princess Bride character The Dread Pirate Roberts. “Rose” is the name that belongs to my favorite role-playing character, Captain Lyra Rose, who I created back in the mid 90s.
I have also adopted the moniker for the steampunk cosplay/character I’ve been working on. Stay tuned!
